<A domestic SMB received memory virtualization technology transfer from ETRI and began localization of the memory virtualization technology. Developers are testing an active memory expansion solution to create a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) at the Sysgear Server Test Lab in Seongsu-dong, Seoul on the 15th.>

A Korean SMB began the localization of memory virtualization solutions with the goal of launching them this year. It plans to achieve the effect of replacing foreign products in areas that use a lot of memory, such as software-defined data centers (SDDC), cloud, etc., and target the global market.

On the 15th, SYSGEAR CEO Eom Sang-ho said, “We will localize the memory virtualization solution by receiving the technology transfer from the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).” CEO Eom added, “We will actively target the market together with major domestic and foreign partners.”

The key to memory virtualization technology is to use the remaining resources of memory in different devices (machines) together with virtualization technology. For example, 40% of the remaining memory capacity of device A can be brought into the memory of device B and used as if it were the memory of device B.

The strength of memory virtualization is that it can utilize idle resources, maximize memory usage, and increase processing speed.

The technology for virtualizing servers and storage was led by foreign companies such as VMware and Citrix. The memory virtualization field is also led by these companies and another foreign company, ScaleMP. However, there are no core developers in this field in Korea.

ETRI has invested in the development of memory virtualization technology since 2018. Last year, we decided that the technology had matured and announced the transfer of technology. Among the many candidates, the technology was transferred to SYSGEAR, which showed technological prowess and growth potential.

CEO Eom said, “I expressed my strong will to localize the memory virtualization solution.” He further added, “There was no difficulty in completing the technology transfer thanks to not only the technology we possess but also the recruitment of related experts.”

As the information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure is automated and the proportion of software utilization increases, virtualization is essential to improve resource utilization and ease data management. Memory virtualization technology is expected to be highly utilized in various fields such as SDDC and the cloud.

CEO Eom said, “SDDC provides virtualized software for all elements such as servers and storage, but the memory virtualization sector is still in a stage before maturity. Because the demand is high, if we succeed in localization, we will achieve good results.”

SYSGEAR plans to target domestic and overseas markets simultaneously with the official product launch at the end of this year.

CEO Eom said, “We expect the size of foreign-made alternative market to be at least 20 billion won,” adding, “We are already closely discussing overseas business with large global partners. Next year, we plan to target the North American markets and expect to achieve good results overseas.”
